:)Easy question (for some) I just had a new hard drive on my laptop, like a new machine exept for the dull screen.Every time I turn it on I have to press Fn and F7 to brighten it .
How do I get it to stay bright.......?
    I run XP.

I don't understand exactly what you mean, but...I don't think that the problem you mention has to do with the hard drive .It would help if you explain the problem better.

 I don't think you will get it to stay bright as it is a power saving device built into Lap tops these days for the battery use.. It makes no difference if you leave the power on until your computer is shut down it will still be the same when you re-boot.. I have the same thing in my Lap top too roders, but I don't really notice I have to brighten the screen any more now.. In fact it feels weird if I don't have to..!!! So sorry roders, but no permanent solution I know of

Hi Roders,on my laptop I have to press Fn on the left and then over on the right I have two arrows on key pads with what looks like Arrow heads above a sunshine symble.i just press Fn and then either the up sunshine pad key or the one pointing down and that puts up a pop up of a laptop and some yellow coloured bars which make the brightness come and go depending on which of the two keys I press

Once the brightness is where I want it,it usually stays bright unless I use the battery for more than six hours then I usually find it goes dim until I plug back into the mains where it instantly becomes brighter again:)

Sorry that I couldn't be of more help and would ask Mr Kandy but he is upstairs getting himself soaked under the shower while I am sitting outside enjoying the last of this beautiful day and listening to the birds singing:D
