I bought a raised planter from B&M (at only a £5 bargain!). This will go somewhere in the lawned area and I would appreciate your advice on what to plant for a spectacular summer display for 2014 please? Dog friendly plants please ;)

If you want annuals the list is endless. You could have cosmos, calendula, French marigolds, coreopsis. You could put dahlias in there or possibly put summer flowering bulbs. Wildflower mixed seeds would bring lots of bees and butterflies. How big is the container?

2 foot square so quite small. I also would prefer to avoid slug pellets as have 2 mutts.

The taller plants tend to have a bigger spread and more roots Derbyshire, so you won't have much if any room left for other plants.

I have both French and African marigold seeds available if you would like some; think I have also got some Malva Zebrina (not a lot though)

Relatively shallow at about 8 inches, however I shall dig into the lawn beneath it for added depth.

You are most kind for offering. I have tried Marigolds in the past but the slugs have mutilated them overnight.

The tubers need to be planted under the planter so that it comes up through it. Fully hardy and multiplies readily for me. It grows up to a metre or more.
