    Advice required.....

I recently seeded the lawn, about 8 weeks ago now... Growing very slowly. Been watering it well. Some patches have grown really well. Other patches there is no grass at all.

With the weather being mixed at the moment I want to try and put some more seed down on those patches tonight. Would it be best for me to over seed or disturb the soil slightly by forking it to ensure the seed is properly planted?

When we seeded our top lawn, we had areas that didn't take, like yours. I gave the dry areas a rake over, seeded, raked again and then kept it watered when needed. Filled out lovely now. Not sure if that's the right way to do it, but it worked for me.

PS, your garden is looking fantastic! It's such an acheivement when it all comes together how you'd like it. Looks really great.

Cheers Joolz, I am glad you have done it that way too. Going to go home and do ours tonight as its still fairly loose and damp from all the rain.

Looking great now, just want the plants to grow quicker round the borders but they will come over time. Can't wait to start on the shed. The foundations are there which is the main thing.

I'd just like to add Paul, that grass seed struggles to germinate below 12C which is why yours is proving difficult at the moment. :)

Cheers Sheal.... Thankyou. Will perk up over time then. Hoping that soon I can give it a very light trim on the top.

But there are patches where there appears to be no grass seed at all hence why I think that I should seed now. :-)

There's no reason why you shouldn't over seed, it won't do any harm, just give an eye to the temperature particularly overnight. :) If it's to cold then you could cover with fleece or plastic overnight just to keep the temperature up while it germinates.

Would you recommend putting the tin foil back out to scare the birds off again? Or reckon it will be ok this time as there is less seed?

If it worked then why not, some people use old cd's. :) There is more chance of seed theft now as birds are rearing young.

Reseeded lots last night... Didnt realise how much there was to do. Took about two hours.

Used a long handed weeding fork to disturb the soil, mixed in plenty of seed and some pre seeding lawn fertiliser to the new bits to help get it going!

The good thing about reseeding is that I was able to see how good of a quality the top soil was that I put down. Very happy with it. Considering the ground was just clay before. There are well over 12 inches of top soil towards the left hand side of the garden.

Looking at your picture Paul, have you left the seed uncovered?

I did. Should I cover it up?

Yes just lightly sprinkle some soil or compost over the top and firm it down. It will help the seed to germinate and stop the birds swiping it. :)

Back lawn is stating to look a lot better. Hoping that it will soon look like the front (seeded about three weeks before) which is on its 3rd cut.

At the moment I have been picking weeds out individually once wet as its a new lawn but still looks good I think... Few patches and edges to look at.
