I found a red lilly beetle on my Tree Lilly, I lot of the leaves have holes in them and there is
like black poo under the leaves, which I assume are the grubs?

I have wiped away as much as I can find, is there any else that should be done please?

Get some "Provado ultimate bug killer"... It is the only thing I know of that touches them... Spray and keep your eyes open for anymore beetles or grubs appearing.. Spraying with that will hopefully save your lilies as it is a systemic..

I check my lillies every day for them and dispatch them when I find them, I find that more effective than trying to treat the plants.

If you have removed the grubs and the brown mucus you have done all you can and arrested the damage. The damaged leaves will not repair themselves but it should still flower OK as long as the buds have not been eaten - slugs will eat the buds but I haven't known the beetle do so.

As NCFCcrazy says, just keep checking every day. The worst infestations occur when the beetles have had a week or so left uninterrupted to do the damage.

I check and kill what beetles I can find of course but there is always one or two that will overwinter in the bulbs or soil near them.. The larvae also burrow into the soil near the bulbs before emerging as beetles later, ready to mate the following Spring and that all adds to killing the plants as well... So I do use Provado as well to try and stop them reaching the bulbs.. I do have quite a large lily bed but it is diminishing due to the beetles..!!

And boy do they like mating!! I reckon that at 30% of the time and get two in one as they're so busy getting jiggy that they don't see me coming!

Can someone enlighten me as to exactly how, beetles, um, do it? What kind of equipment do they have?
I only found out a few weeks ago how birds do it, sweet innocent that I am. A bit eye-watering in the case of ducks.

Well apparently a cats thingy is kinda scaly, and the point is it (errr, how do I put this?) goes in smoothly enough, but it's not so smooth coming t'other way against the scales as it were. Hence the noise................

Sort of. I learnt this knowledge from an ex girlfriend who was a veterinary nurse. We were on holiday in Kos on our balcony watching the local queen take a variety of local studs in short order amidst much noise which is how the subject came up (in case you were wondering).

I checked again this evening and whist a lot of the leaves have holes in them, the
                    flower buds look ok.

After checking under all the leaves, I found about another 4 more grubs under some of the smaller leaves, these have now been removed and I am going to check the plant on a
                    daily basis now.

I did find another beetle but in my haste in reaching into the steams, it fell off into the pot
and as it's a Tree Lilly the pot is about 24" in diameter and the beetle managed to escape
in amongst the many stems :(

                    Thanks for the many replies
