Early in the season and the garden looks very different, open and architectural. On an overcast day it was full of scent from the Daphnes, Sarcococca, Wintersweet, Witch hazels and others and surprising colour ranges from Hellebores, snowdrops and other early bulbs.

    The Gunneras are still asleep:

Bark and tree forms are dramatic:

Fab pics John :blue thumb: It'll be a totally different scene in a few months. One can almost sense the anticipation.

Thank you for sharing your Valentine's Day outing to Wisley (so, you didn't get your longed for Screwfix catelogue then :heehee:).

Fabulous photo's but I confess my most favourite is the second one "Bark and Tree Form"

Still remember stripping off in the hot house there, when something scarry crawled up my sleeve :yikes:

                      Never did find it

I'm intrigued by the hedge in the 'pollards and chimneys' picture in post #4. Love the structure and form of the bare branches. Any idea what kind of hedge it was? Perhaps a beech hedge which has been cut back hard, or was it something else?

@IceColdRum It's Daphne bholua 'Jacqueline Postill' - all the bholuas are looking great at the moment, I'm tempted to get one but they are expensive and not 100% hardy so I'm told.
