    Hi All,

Since my last rhubarb roots had by all been eaten by vine weevil !! it was in a 30 ltr tub so it was like a buffet to them.

Time to get another or two but will be going into the ground this time.

    So best variety and why:
    and a supplier if possible.
    Spruce

Sorry, can't help you :noidea:. My rhubarb patch is rather old (70 years) but not as old as Jemima Puddleduck's.

I have a lovely patch of Timperley Early ,thick stems , lovely flavour and even better if forced.
Raspberry Red is also grown on our allotments , it’s got the RHS award of garden merit , so well thought of.
As for suppliers , look out for a farm shop / nursery who sell potted crowns ( in a 3 litre pot at least , good and heavy ! ) .
Don’t be tempted by the feeble carded offerings of tiny crowns in garden centres , they will take longer to produce a decent crop .

The best rhubarb is the one you get for free.

Out patch probably is pretty old as well - we bought it with the house. It contains at least two different types of rhubarb, but I wouldn't be able to tell you which ones. But experience tells me that a variety of different plants heightens your chances that some will survive in case of sickness and parasites.

I got ours from a lady round the corner after asking on Facebook if anyone was splitting theirs.
Free plants are the best! Unfortunately I have no idea what variety it is
