RIP Albert Finney

The very sad news that Albert Finney has checked out cannot be allowed to pass without comment. One of the true greats and by all accounts a genuinely decent person as well.



This scene from Millers Crossing seems to sum up his skill at playing defiant characters beautifully.............

 

Sad news.

My future wife and I saw him from excellent seats when he opened as "Billy Liar" at the Cambridge Theatre, I think in 1959.
My dad was a GPO telephone manager and he got a new PBX telephone system put into that theatre when there was a big waiting list for them. The tickets were given him as a "thankyou" which not being a theatre lover, he passed on to us, as we often went, usually sitting up in "the gods" at a few London theatres.
