It Ain't Half Hot Mum actor dies aged 88

Only a short time after the death of his wife of 62 years, Windsor Davies has passed away. A huge part of our entertainment, particularly in the 70's & 80's. RIP :frown:

I always liked him in, It Ain't 'alf Hot Mum!"

Now, repeats of 'allo 'allo have been shown adfinitum. In this, the plots take the mickey out of every nationality. It was the same with, It Ain't 'alf Hot Mum!

But the BBC so far have not repeated it. They say it's no longer "PC."

      I wonder why?

      Save us from "diversity."

He was a brilliant actor I think, and in it ain’t half hot Mum.. A very lovely person in reality too..
I know I read that too but surely “on the buses” isn’t PC but you can find that on gold or somewhere like that....

I’d like to be able to see ‘It Ain’t Half Hot Mum’ again, and have wondered why it hasn’t been repeated. I don’t exactly remember the terminology, but by today’s standards, it’s probably a bit ‘rich’ :noidea:

It's not that, it's the 'blackface' that is stopping being shown again. A white actor darkening their face to play a 'native' is now considered deeply offensive.

Actually it was considered offensive back then. Just not by white people.

It's all a bit of nonsense. It was a comedy show.
True we've had many white actors playing Othello, unfortunately Paul Robeson hasn't been available for decades.

From Shakespeare's time we've had male actors taking women's parts and it's the stock in trade in pantomime. Is this now causing offence?

I think I'll complain that Dick Wittington is always played by a woman.

Oh, I don’t know? I’m quite taken with ‘Would I Lie To You?’ these days. Watched it last night, and featured Henning Wehn, a German comedian. I only have to look at him and he makes me laugh :)
