    Last year, about this time, there were around 50 nests all occupied and healthy looking. January no nests at all not a twig. They started building early last month and now we have more or less the same amount as last year. My question is what happened to the nests over the winter, did the birds dismantle them or was it the winter storms. You would have thought some would have survived as the Magpies nests do. The occupied trees, in open fields, are not sheltered and must bear the brunt of high winds.

    My guess would be the weather cleared them. I know crows normally nest in the same area each year but not in the same nest. Sometimes new nests are built on top of old, so I would say the wind cleared the tree.
