Solved Root id

    Have now come across this root has small shoots appearing it’s black to look at a quite wriggley
    When broken or damaged has a red colour it’s about 6 -8 inches long
    Any advice would be welcome been digging out all I can find

    Might be something wonderful...or not!
    I have never dig up my plants to see what the roots look like.
    Suggest you wait for leaves/flowers then add more pics to this thread.
    Then we can have a go at helping you.

    I am thinking not wonderful there’s quite a lot and it hasn’t been dug for years could pot some up to see what happens
    Was hoping with red colour internal it may give a clue

    Potted up and placed undercover to try and force into growth

    Maybe a Peony allow the roots don't exactly represent a peony tuber . Soon find out when the leave opens

      Looks to small for peaony thickest about 8mm and lots of them, all individual not a rhizome so I presume self seed hope it doesn’t self propagate from root remains

          Are you thinking of Creeping Qinquefoil? The roots can get quite thick and go deep, but aren't the leaf stems thinner?

          I don't know what I'm thinking about, I don't bother naming weeds, I tend to just get rid of them.:smile:
          I dont have a clue what it it just resembles something that I have gotten rid of in the past.
