Would I be correct in thinking that the leaves on this rose are being attacked by fungus?

Anyone have an idea as to how it can be cured?

Good afternoon @Sandy Ground my friend can't be 100% sure from here but it looks like Mildew and yes it is a fungal disease.Rose powdery mildew is a fungus that produces airborne spores from infected stems or buds on roses. After overwintering on your plants, the disease is most likely to flare up if the roots are in dry soil and the leaves are in humid air - conditions that are often found when plants are grown near or against a wall.

Bayer Multirose 2 is one I have used in the past but not on my Roses as I try and use an organic method, hope this helps.

    Organic option
Apply fungicidal spray once a week until all signs of mildew are gone. Apply the spray evenly to foliage in the morning to avoid leaf burn. Make your own spray by combining 2 teaspoons of baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon of liquid soap in 2 quarts of water.

Good afternoon @wiseowl I know that this rose is grown on a balcony in hot conditions, and would expect that it does suffer as you say. I will pass on the advice. Would I be correct in thinking that the affected leaves should be removed and disposed of?

We nearly lost a dear Rose, dear as it was named after our recently passed away Doggy. It was so bad after 5 week Holiday, we decided just cut everything back, give a dressing of Rose feed pellets and hope for the best. With in weeks we had new vigorus groth. To which we just kept feeding the Rose with some Chicken Manure. It worked a treat.

Welcome to GC John. :) Although pruning of roses is best done in February before they start into full growth it won't have done yours any harm, although it may delay it blooming. I wouldn't advise you to over feed it, generally two to three times during the growing season and the last feed is best no later than July.

@wiseowl as a follow up on this, I heard from my friend today. You'll be pleased to know that the rose is now healthy and doing well. I've been asked to convey thanks to you for your answer. Thanks to you, there is now a very healthy rose on a balcony in Israel.:dbgrtmb:
