I have recently noticed that the leaves in three of my roses have become discoloured at the top of the plant but the leaves around the bottom are nice and green. I water every few days and have sprayed with rose clear once as I noticed lots of greenfly on all my roses. Can anyone tell me what's going on please as the plants have new buds and have continued flowering? IMG_20200601_203543.jpg IMG_20200601_203600.jpg

I sprayed in the evening when the plants were in shade. Chemical burn had occurred to me but I'm not 100% convinced it's that. I'm thinking about pruning it back to below where the leaves are all discoloured.

It could be leaf scorch. Did you water the roses at the base avoiding the leaves?

I always water from the bottom of the roses so I don't think it's leaf scorch. I've bought some ladybird larvae which I'm going to let loose on them in case there's some hidden little pest on them that I can't see.

What type of soil do you have?

I have clay soil. I feed the plants about twice a month with Richard Jackson's flower power and have watered every few days, especially with all this dry weather we've been having. I've had the roses in this soil for at least five years and this is the first time I've such discolouration in the leaves at the top of the plant.

It is unlikely the foliage will recover. Save time and energy and snip the offending parts off. Might be an idea to cut back on the chemical feeding.

My dad cut all the roses with the dodgy leaves right back to the main stalks but he said he found this on the main stem. What do you think the orange is on the stem? IMG-20200604-WA0001.jpg

You can buy them on the internet, I got some from eBay.
