    Hi all,
So this year I have decided to add roses to my garden. As I know nothing about them I'm learning as I go. I have added a few so far (I've gone a little mad) but have the space and I'm reading up on them as I go and add more.
Obviously David Austin have come up on my journey and I have purchased 2 from them and the rest from another company.
Today whilst in Costco they had a range of Old Rose Beauties in various colours that were quite reasonably priced so I picked a lovely deep red colour.

Once home I managed to get the big sticky label off. Read it and looked it up on the web and now I'm confused (doesn't take much) on the label the rose is called Ausroyal rose but when on the web it's also called William Shakespeare and was bred by DA.
So are most roses available something to do with DA and can be called other names or am I just missing brain cells and asking a silly question :rolleyespink:

Maybe I need to get some books

The ausroyal bit is to do with breeding and breeding rights for the rose I think. William Shakespeare is a David Austin rose, I can't find it on their website so they must of discontinued it and sold the rights to other breeders . William Shakespeare is the marketing name of the rose . That's what I gather anyway maybe @wiseowl can shed some more light on the topic.

Most roses aren't bred by DA they are loads of rose breeders around the world , anything called English shrub rose is a DA rose though it like their own niche word for that group of roses . If anyone else bred the same rose ( before DA ) it will be just called a shrub rose .

Good morning @Jasmine star I sent an email to Joe at David Austin's I'm not sure if he has answered your question but I shall contact him again

This is the email he kindly sent me
Good morning Wiseowl and thanks you for your email.

In regards to your enquiry, 'AUSroyal' and 'William Shakespeare' are in fact exactly the same rose as all of our English roses have an appellation, which is a code given to the rose on its introduction. The 'AUS' refers to 'Austin' showing that the breeder was David Austin, and the second half is a unique word that will be only be given to
that rose. This appellation will stay with the rose wherever it is sold in the world and so ensures that if the rose is sold under a different name elsewhere in the world, it can be shown that it is the same rose being sold.
I hope this helps, if you have any further questions or queries, please don't hesitate to get back in contact with us.

      Kind regards,
      Joe

Wow! @wiseowl thanks so much :love30: how interesting is that. So not as complicated as I originally thought :heehee:
Brilliant now I know what I have. I only hope it's as beautiful as it looks on the picture.
Thank you again for taking the time to look into this and please thank Joe for responding. :dbgrtmb:

I can feel a sneaky little obsession beginning with these Rose's :heehee:

I have my eye on a Koko loko.
