    Hi all :)

It will soon be basket time and this year I would like to create a 'globe' shaped basket with trailing petunias.

Has anybody tried this and was it easy to create, water and maintain?

Any advice and tips would be much appreciated :)

Ball baskets are created using two normal baskets joined together. I`ve found the best plants to use are Imps. To create one of these baskets. Line 2, preferably, 14" baskets, with moss and fill with compost, slightly over filling. When the baskets are filled put them side by side so that the rims are touching. now put a hand under each and bring them together so that one is upside down on top of the other. Using 4 or 5, 3" lengths of tying wire, fix them together. Stand the ball on a pot and fill with your plants, add the chains from one of the baskets and fit to the top rim of the bottom basket. Finally, make a hole in the top of the ball, through the moss and a few inches into the compost for watering. Hang up, and enjoy.:gnthb:

David, that sounds very similar to how a friend of mine does hers, using Impatiens too, except she prepares both "halves" with plants beforehand and then gets her OH to help her join them together:thumb:

You are more likely to damage the plants by planting up first, and it is easier to put them together yourself, rather than trying to coordinate with someone else.:thumb:
