    Hi All,

There's certain areas on my drive which are paved or gravel and away from my main garden. I get an annoying amount of weeds growing in these areas and was wondering if there's something I can do to kill weeds and prevent them from growing in the future. I've read Salt is pretty good at killing weeds especially if mixed with vinegar. I was thinking if I spread loads of salt and vinegar over the gravel and wash it in would it prevent future growth? for a good couple of years?

Good afternoon @CJAS106 I usually put mine on my cod and chips;)

On a more serious note I have tried it and from memory it kills only the top growth and not the roots and also is not selective of only weeds:smile:

Thanks for the response, not worried about it killing everything as this soil is isolated from the main garden. Any other suggestions that I can use would be welcomed...just something in liquid form that will effectively make soil inhabitable for plant life.

Liquid salt put into old sprayer and spray on to leaves on a dry day, salt will kill the roots as i killed a willow tree, agree with Woo it's not selective

Ive used this method for years on gravel. 1 part salt (I use the table variety), 4 part vinegar (white) and a table spoon of washing up liquid. The washing liquid helps the mix stick to the weeds. I do mine once a month. Mix very well until table salt dissolves. Never failed me yet.

you would want to make sure that the mixture doesn't run/wash off the gravel into the nearby soil.
