Ahead of next weeks referendum, thought it might be interesting to conduct our own vote.

I think it will be terrible for everyone if Scotland votes for independence.

To my mind, the saddest part of it all though is the way the Yes campaign is being done. The criteria for eligibility to vote in the referendum has been specifically designed to help the Yes camp. Born and bred Scots living outside of Scotland can't vote for one thing, and I beleieved they lowered the minimum age to 16 so that they can target impressionable youngsters.

With the right criteria set, then comes the lies and the total lack of answers. North Sea Oil revenues will rise over the next few decades will they? Ok. That would be why politicians and engineers alike are working hard to find alternative fuel sources including fracking. Scotland will automatically become part of the EU will it? Well, the EU has already said no, Scotland will have to apply and be judged on its own merits. Scotland will keep the pound will it? Well, every party in the UK has said no to that. Scotland will be ok if it defaults on its share of UK debt will it? Well, with no revenue coming in from Westminster and companies already starting to move registered offices to England in anticipation of independence, its hard to see how Scotland will fund itself, certainly in the short term, without borrowing, and that borrowing is going to be extremely expensive for them, if they can get it at all, if they choose to default.

And what about their security? They've already said that they want all our nuclear arsenal out of Scotland if they get independence. So I know Scotland has lots of good military, but here we are, on the verge of war on several fronts that even a United kingdom would struggle to prevail in (I'm thinking of Russia on one front, ISIS on another), and Scotland wants to not only sever itself from the support of the rest of the UK, but it also wants to get rid of our most powerful military hardware.

I agree with every word. The whole thing is a total cock-up! They're voting despite not knowing what they're voting for except for the concept of independence. They have no idea even of how much cash in the bank they will have. And they do not even have a military. They will lose the automatic right to move to England/Europe when it goes belly up.

I am a Scotsman through and through, and I love (and miss) Scotland; for as long as I live, my heart will always be firmly lodged in Scotland. However, this whole 'Yes' campaign is being ran by power-mad bampots, the biggest of the lot being Salmond himself.

What really worries me is the fact that there are large parts of Scotland where genuine poverty is widespread (and I mean real poverty, and the promise of a life of more money in their pockets and lower taxes at the same time is enough to make people in those circumstances vote yes.... especially those who have been less fortunate in education. The details of what may or may not happen are irrelevant to them - the promise is enough.

The other, HUGE fly in the ointment is the fact that we currently have a Tory government (lets not play semantics, the the Lib Dems are only just hangers on), and the vast majority of Scots have a hard-wired hatred for the Tories thanks to Maggie Thatcher and the damage that was done to communities all across Scotland (re poverty, above). To a considerable number, if wouldn't matter a jot what David Cameron promised in terms of funding or devolved powers, they would rather poke their own eyes out with a fork than place a vote that was agreeing with the Tories.

The whole thing is a worry to be honest.

It is an exercise in ego massage for Salmond and his wee group of buddies.

In fact, Cameron is the biggest asset that the YES campaign has. I would fly in the face of logic and vote yes just to be free of him and the Tories.

Everyone apart from the Conservatives who will then be likely to rule the rest of the UK forever.

And who agreed to that, The Conservatives.

                    More of the same theme.

But what will you be after independence - how will passports/nationalality be re-allocated? @fat controller will you change your UK passport for a Scottish one?

Someone said, if you were to let the English vote as well the yes vote would win easily.

I know thats being slightly un PC.

But being English I really do get fed up with the Scots the Welsh and N. Ireland blaming England for everything that goes wrong in their countries.
They are represented at Westminster, where they get a say in what happens in the UK in general, and at their own assemblies, we however only have Westminster.
Cameron sounds a bit Scottish to me, Gordon Brown??

And the Queen spends most of the summer there, so I'm beginning to think maybe we are out numbered.

I don't have a passport, nor have I ever had one, so I suppose I will have to wait and see what I get :snork:

On the bright side, as the EU have said no to Scotland automatically joining, in the event of Scotland becoming independant, that would make me a non-EU immigrant in England, so I should finally get a council house.....

Well I'm saying YES. Then we can go on to Continental Summer time and have longer, lighter summer evenings and not be awoken at stoopid o'clock by the bright, too early sunrise,

ISIS are a real threat to us and I agree clueless that we would definitely be stronger if we stick together, to split the United Kingdom is ludicrous.

That seems to be the case for both everyone living in Scotland and those in the rest of the UK which is a ridiculous state of affairs for everybody in the UK. It's a shambles that never should have never been agreed as a basis of a vote by the UK Government.
