Growing Cucumbers from seeds this year (normally buy plants) grew find initially, repotted, again fine, then +2 weeks after poting ... almost overnight the leaves have turned yellow.
Is this expected, is it terminal.

    What is the cause ?

They are on the windowsill with about 30 other plants (Chillis & toms) which are doing fine, but not cucumbers.

Cucumbers are very particular, they dislike cold and last night was very cold with us. Did you get the hard frost last night? If it got cold on your windowsill that might be the cause. Otherwise over-watering is another issue that causes cucumbers to suddenly die. Although yours haven't died yet, the growing tip looks alive.

For the above reasons I wait another week or two before sowing mine. Tomatoes and Chillies are a bit hardier than cucumber seedlings and can be started earlier.

They SO are. As the old saying goes "cucumbers wake up each morning and think of a new way to die" :( Once we get to June and they are shinning up their climbing frame, and nights are always above 10C they will be fine.

I agree, I'd be inclined to take them off the windowsill at night, and I definitely wouldn't have them window-side of a closed curtain.

Mine are snug under a grow lamp at a temperature that doesn't shift more than a degree or so day and night ... but I've sown more than 2x as many as I need "just in case".
