I have posted photos of Sefton Park palm house before, but it's been a while, and although nothing much changes, and it's out of season.. but it was a nice day and why not.

Also I know these 'inhabitants' are common further south, but up here they're relatively rare, so a colony of these forming now in Liverpool.

Parakeets in Liverpool! Not just one or two, but a whole colony. I knew there was colonies in Manchester and Warrington, but they'd generally stayed away from our area, for some reason, apart from the odd sighting. Perhaps because there were no pairs.

Brings back memories , boating on the lake and fishing, glad to see the glass house looking so good I think it had a major overhaul a few years back and you could buy a pane of glass to help out.

My Grandad became head Gardener for Liverpool Parks and Gardens and he was at his happiest when he could get away and work away his hours in the Palm House.

As spruce, I can remember going to the lake as a lad to go fishing. And I have a funny story about that,

As kids we did not have much fishing tackle, just basics is all so one day I turned up and started setting up my gear, on my left where two blokes, so being a cheeky little so an so I went up to the first one and said.

"Hey mate, can you lend me a hook?" He rummaged around and gave me a hook, I thanked him and returned to my spot, but a couple of minutes later I returned and said.

"Could I borrow a couple of weights please" He muttered something quietly, but gave me some weights whilst his mate looked on and laughed at him.

I started fishing and about an hour or so later, I shouted over to him.

                "Whats the time?"
                "10.30" came the reply
                "Thanks" I shouted back.

It was at that moment his mate spoke up and said.

"You tight sod, why didn't you give him your watch?"

                Steve...:)

I used to live just a short stroll away from the palm house when I was in my 20's. I used to love living right next to the Park. As a kid, we used to go fishing and to feed the ducks. Great memories.

Looks like a great place to visit, especially in mid winter when things are looking a bit down outside.
