So after a good day of work I'm hoping this is the last time I'll have to turn the soil. The far bed is much better now. The near bed still has couch grass roots lifting but nowhere near as much as there was. So it's been worth turning it over winter. The soil feels good and was full of worms. So next will be raking, placing the raised beds, putting membrane inbetween them and hopefully covering with bark.

Another lovely day today at the
allotment in the sunshine. Chatting with lovely people. The soil is warming up and I managed to get the second of the raised beds in. I've covered inbetween with membrane and bark to hopefully get on top of the couch grass that I haven't managed to get to so next year if I need more space it won't be too bad under it. Starting small this year. Using half of the plot (the rest is like a jungle I have to cut down and cover) so not to get overwhelmed. So the beds are done. I painted the tool shed and most of the floor. :heehee: Putting the new felt on the roof on Wednesday and cleaned it out.

Hi @sandymac I'm in Lancashire (North west) it's been 11 degrees the past few days . Not a cloud in the sky and lovely sunshine. I hope it warms up for you in the North East soon.

That's a good strategy for the first year on an a previously overgrown plot. I've seen loads of people start clearing at one end and by the time they get to the far end the first bit is covered with weeds again and they give up, never having grown anything.

Thanks @Scrungee that makes me fell a little better about it. I'm very aware it may appear like I've not done much but it takes time doesn't it. And I'm cream crackered just working half of it :phew:

So I've been at the allotment most if the week. Although dry its been cold. (The digging soon warms me up) I've put new felt on the roof of the tool shed and built a trellis for the raspberry plants to go in. Learnt
I have a gooseberry growing in the jungle area too  put up some bamboo canes ready for the sweet peas to go in. Steadily working on the jungle area ready to cover. Met some new friends and a random chicken that escaped from a nearby garden. :heehee: A great week.

Removed another section of tarp this morning ready to work on another small section. Operation get on my knees and dig :help: it was a lovely few hours listening to the birds. I was joined by a cat that was stalking something nearby. I could hear the children in a nearby school which was nice too.
