Starting a new thread for 2026.

M&S had Amaryllis reduced to £1.87 so I got two :) The Child got a ceramic jug planter with Muscari (£2), she's a romantic style person and the jug is just the right size for her windowsill emergency watering can.

I was going to wait till my friend dug up a root of Trailing Rosemary .. but I am terribly impatient when it comes to plants, so I ordered a small pot from Amazon Spain and it arrived today ...

I ordered seeds from Chiltern Seeds yesterday and that's it (honest) for this year.

Ordered from Eleplants. They delayed a little bit to avoid worst cold in transit. Leucadendron Burgundy Sunset, akebia Quinta, holboellia latifolia and grevillea aurea. Good plants - although they're in 9's pots, they are pretty mature - not just new tender rooted cuttings.
Not their fault, but postage is expensive these days. Next time I'll have to order lots more to make it more cost effective!

Holboellia latifolia is not one I grow; I do have H coriacea and H brachyandra. H coriacea RHS describe it as rampant; I can vouch for that I exiled it from it's first home to behind the compost heap where it's making successful attempts to take over the scrub behind my property in March it smells lovely and I have had fruit, rather tasteless, some sources describe it as self sterile. Here it's evergreen. H brachyandra is a recent acquisition and the RHS describe as vigorous and it's definitely that.
The taxonomists stuffed most Holboelia into Stauntonia about 18 months ago.

Farfugium japonicum, I liked the leaves ...
It's still in the bag I carried it home in.

Nothing so far and we are almost through the dangerous month of January when scouring websites for plants is highly appealing whilst the weather makes being outside very unappealing.

February can be just as dangerous, so I can't relax my guard yet.

I bought a metal raised bed and put it together. It is big (120 x 60 x 60cm) and good quality for the price (£44). It was also easy to put together. I am very pleased with it.

                    20260124_084825.jpg

I had however underestimated how much it would cost to fill it with good quality compost and topsoil :yikes:

After a visit to B&Q, I filled it and moved two plants there. (I plan to move the berberis eventually, I don't think it goes well there). Here it is, looking quite muddy at the moment.

If anyone is wondering why I didn't just plant in the ground, it's because the root of an old leylandii is under the raised bed and I have not been able to remove it (I hate leylandii...)

I am constantly surprised by how much compost and soil can be fitted in even a quite small container, @CostasK. That looks a nice deep one. :blue thumb:

Indeed @ViewAhead (happy new year by the way!). Yes, it's 60 cm tall. Height was a key consideration actually, because that rose ("Bring Me Sunshine") grows quite big - it can even grow as a mini climber, for which the recommendation is to provide a minimum of 60 cm.

Looks good @CostasK. What have you done with your container pond that was previously disguising your lovely leylandii stump?

                            Thanks @Plantminded

I was blessed with multiple beautiful leylandii when I bought the house, that left their roots behind  This one is a different to the one the container pond is hiding.

Just ordered a couple of large obelisks to replace a wooden arch/pergola that was rotting and in danger of collapse. We've left it a while after removing the wood so that we could be sure that we wanted something in the space.

By the way, I love reading about plant purchases. And even more so when I’ve never heard of them! Thank you
