I would like to move two shrubs ,to new planting locations in the next couple of weeks. They are a Choisya and a Red Robin . Now generally autumn is a good time for shrub transplanting. My main question is , would it be OK to cut them back to make them a more movable size ? They are a little big to handle.

    TIA

It is usually recommended you cut back top growth before transplanting.

With the Red Robin, it will also encourage lots of new, bright coloured foliage in the Spring

:waggy: Just, watch your back! You're not 18 years old anymore ;)

I have 2 red robins. They are both huge. One has been chopped down completely. The other will probably go next summer. They need to be trimmed to shape early to keep them manageable. Last year I tried to take some cuttings ready for the big chop. That didn't work out too well.

Now I never knew that @pete . You learn something every day. Problem is at my age I forget two things every day as well.
