    Garlic Spray, @thriftybri. You need to re-apply after a few light showers or a couple of really heavy ones IME. I also watched a video with a lady who used the same amounts of water in terms of boiling and spraying, but used 2 bulbs instead, boiled for 10 minutes and didn't even dilute the stuff! Personally, I found that the recipe below worked fine, but experiment and see what gives you best results. :)

    - Crush 1 bulb of Garlic and add to a litre of water.

    - Boil for five minutes, and when cool sieve, bottle and put in fridge.

    - Then add 1 tablespoonful per litre of water and spray.

        @Nikolaos does this just deter the slugs, as in making the plants unpalatable?

        Coffee grindings...
        Doesn't matter if u use them right out of the box or make yourself a cup of coffee before disposing the stuff throughout the garden.

        Works like a charm, slugs HATE that stuff and don't want to go near or even crawl over it. Additionally it makes for a decent fertilizer and is non-toxic for plants and bigger animals.

        You can either sprinkle it generously over a wider area or make circle around some plants to give them extra protection.

            @luciusmaximus
            Sadly I personally don't drink coffee, but I am always eager to offer some to guest when they stay at our home :biggrin:

            Until then I just collect the slugs by hand, throw them into a bowl of water with a bit of dish soap (keeps them from escaping and kills them) and flush them down the toilet.

            Yes, it simply acts as a deterrent. :) The recipe I posted was from Monty Don.
