I bought a box of growmore that smells strongly of ammonia, I don’t remember growmore having any odour before. I wondering if it’s been boxed with the wrong content. It doesn’t look like it usually does. It’s finer and brownish in colour. I’m thinking it’s all nitrogen.

    Anythoughts?

Could take it back, I’ve opened the carton and I doubt the B&M would even know what I was saying about it. It was only a small box, £3 or £4. I will do a test on a couple of plants in the border.

Sounds like you have Fish blood and bone, that has a bit of a pong and is not white granules like growmore.
Could you possibly have the organic version of growmore?

Ammonium nitrate is a common ingredient of fertilisers.

Also a common ingredient in terrorist's explosive devices, so probably not sold at B&M.

The Ammonium Nitrate has a very strong smell so it will take over any other smell, also it will have been boxed up not that long ago (ie; it's fresh)

You should see 3 different colours in the box white, brown and a lighter brown/redish if it's a mix

My past experience of growmore is white granular product.

There are 2 sorts, compound and a blend, compound will be white-ish to grey, the blend will be 3 products mixed together, compound will be 3 products made into each pill or granules
