...and thought I could do something with that. I was on my bike at the time, so slung it over the handle bars and peddled home.

This is how it looked when I got it home. Pretty much a burnt out wreck, but the metal still quite sound. I think it had only been used once and hadn't rained on it, so wasn't very rusty. The legs were a bit bent though, hence why it looks a bit on the wonk.

I then removed the legs and handle and began to strip off all the old paint, ash and strip to bare metal where I could. Then painted the insides with a coat of black hammerite.

The next day I gave it a coat of blue paint on the outside and added the handle back on. Couldn't really add the legs again as the whole thing wouldn't sit on the decking properly otherwise.

The entire project cost me nothing to do. I had all the tools and the paint left over from other jobs. It all cost me was some time. I was eying up the same barbeque a few weeks back in the tescos this one probably came from but couldn't justify spending £8 on a pot. Just my luck I found it at the side of the road really.

Just got to find a plant to put in it now.

Blimey, when my mates come round for a Barbie they arrive in droves and expect all the trimmings ... I'm not sure a "bucket" would do for the cooking :)

Blinking smart JJ and very inspiring what you turn your hand too :)

Cyclists are able to see all sorts of stuff lying in/beside the road (and lots more) plus have the advantage of always being able to stop and pick it up.

I suspect this is one of those upmarket disposable barbeques though. Like glamping? I thought it was a bucket when I first saw it though. I left the grill behind though, which I feel bad about as I probably could something with it, but can't think what though.

Looks great JJ . Hammerite is wonderful stuff for bare metal , I have used it for over 40 years ! There should be some bargain bedding plants in your local nursery or GC around now, to plant in it . Don't forget to punch some holes in the bottom for drainage.

Actually I haven't added any holes in it. There were some holes in the bottom already for the legs to slot through and some massive holes at the side, which I presume were meant to increase air flow for the barbeque. I thought that would be more than enough.
