    Hi all,

My garden has a lot of dips and uneven areas that I am going to level off with topsoil. As I was going to need to order in the soil I thought I may as well build my raised beds for vegetable planting now, and get all the soil I need delivered in one go. There are lots of choices of ‘types’ or ‘grades’ of soil available and I have not got a clue about one from the other! I need approx 15t delivered and want to keep cost to a minimum. Can anyone recommend what soil I should get. Also can anyone recommend a supplier in the Newport Gwent area that is cheap. I always thought I could ring up a supplier, ask for 15t of topsoil and it would be delivered....little did I know there would be so many different types of soil and of course so many different prices.......mostly expensive.
I have access to plenty of grass seed. Also have access to manure and compost to add to the soil in the beds. Nothing fancy, Just want the plain old topsoil really!
    Best regards,
    Paul

If you're prepared to take the chance on uncleaned soil Paul try looking at your local private ads. Quite often people give it away free, also builders sometimes advertise when they dig out for footings and sell it off cheap.

Local skip companies can be a good source too.

If someone is digging out footings you are going to get mostly subsoil, not topsoil.
Be careful what you buy and where you get it from.

      Thanks all for your input.
Lydney skip hire came in cheapest at £16.70/t.
Will give an update on quality when it is down.

      Thanks again everyone.
