    Hi all,
Really want a water feature at the end of the garden near my seating area. As it's miles away from the house and I don't know anything about electrics, I've been googling solar powered ones. Has anyone any experience of these? Are they any use or will I be wasting my money? I don't want a fountain or anything, just a pretty trickling sound

I can't see why it shouldn't work, unless of course there is not enough sun. Another minus could be if the panels get damaged in very bad weather (but then you could cover them, I suppose).
Here are a few examples...This one is made of plastic, so it is easy to carry and doesn't get damaged easily £, 100 approximately

    solar pump £, 700 approximately

In my experience the main thing to consider if you have one of the water submerged solar fountains is to have enough water so that if the sun fails the panel remains well submerged , otherwise I have found this type of panel burns out just by being dried out. Alternatively, you can now get a solar powered fountain from about £60, which has a panel you can mount on a shed roof or some other area which is open to the sun and these will function on very low sun levels. They almost all have to be taken indoors and stored during the winter or they shatter in freezing temperatures. They do give a very nice gentle tinkle and splash and birds etc can drink from them.
