I don't know why they these low bridges are not fitted with a warning bumper device 50 metres in front of them . So if the top of the lorry/ bus comes into contact a warning klaxon can go off .
We have a low single lane bridge going under the railway near us , at the bottom of a 1 in 5 hill. The big artics come out of the Heinz factory 2 miles away. Sat Nav shows this as the best way to M6 north !!! The artic gets stuck at the bottom of the hill , can't get under the bridge , they then have one heck of a job turning the rig round in the very tight space there. Meanwhile gridlock both ways :gaah:

Either side of a nearby low railway bridge they have an arrangement where any over height vehicles break a high level beam and sets off alarms and warning signs, but it keeps breaking down and high vehicles then get stuck under the bridge causing massive tailbacks and detours. I find it ridiculous that anybody driving a high (or wide) vehicle isn't aware what gap they can get through.

When i had wide and high loads and trailors i allways get the tape measure out even if the height was marked on the trailor as we had differant height units, 1 inch can make alot of differants when it come to geting through brigdes,
I had one trailor which was 16foot 1 inch high and i couldn't get to one drop because of a 16 foot brigde, boss was not happy

There is a few brigdes with laser across the road with warning signs but whese are on low brigdes on main roads, but all low bridges have warning signs before you get to them

Sadly ladies and gents, this is one that I cannot comment about on an open forum. The facts as they are known at the moment are that no-one was injured (the absolute most important thing), train services were not disrupted and the bridge is not damaged. The rest will be a matter for investigation.

We have a low bridge under the Railway in Kirkcaldy
It is a weekly occurrence that a double decker bus takes its roof off, and passengers injured
Always Polish drivers, the local authorities have signs further and further back from the Bridge warning max height, and other signs, accident black spot and things, still happens weekly
