I'm no expert on raptors, but I recently saw what I assumed to be a sparrowhawk doing exactly what it says on the tin: killing a sparrow. Actually, it was all over in a flash. There was a group of sparrows in a lavatera, a flurry of dispersing sparrows and a short distress call. I looked up to see a small hawk on the neighbour's chimney, happily in control of its dead prey. And no, surpringly enough, I don't have a photo of the sequence! Anyone else seen any raptor so close to central London?
We are plagued with them on our estate all the sparrows hide in our firethorn some are not quick enough, they take lots of blackbirds as well.
