I was cutting dead leaves off a yucca stem and this crawled out.
I think its probably a spider, but it reminds me of a tick.
    Any ideas. DSC00840.JPG DSC00839.JPG

Still a bit confused, looking at the false widow spider it appears to have two segments to the body, I think this only has one, the big round bit. DSC00841.JPG

It's a tick...and it looks as though it's fed. If it crawled pretty slowly, should think that's reasonable confirmation!

It definitely has the markings on the abdomen of a False Widow spider and go into semi dormancy in winter so it wouldn't move much.

Oh, heavens! @pete check your arms and hands to see if it was you it dined on. Those ticks carry nasty stuff and quickly getting on antibiotics after being bitten really works to stop serious trouble. Well, at least over here, tnat is the drill.

I was asleep, that's why I've go quiet.
I've got two votes for a tick and three for a spider.
Think I will be letting it go in the morning.

I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt and let it go, I'm plumping for the noble false widow.
It would be the noble variety as we don't have any common stuff around here ;)
Of course it might just come back and bite me on the bum whatever it is. :yikes:

I find them in my potting shed and I just let them be. They can give you a unpleasant nip by all accounts but they're harmless enough
