    ...Everywhere

Is it me, or are there a higher than normal amount of spiders about?

I have more spiders on my flower bed than my parents have in their whole garden, infact its so overcrowded they are building them almost on top of each other.

I have no problem with spiders, but I am sure they are the reason the pollinators are staying away, even the hoverflies have gone. I removed a couple of webs from the Erysimum and Liatris spicata, but then felt guilty when it sat there for a few mins and started building it again lol.

Yesterday when tidying up the bottom borders I lifted some plant foilage off the ground and hundreds of them ran for cover!!!

Nature took care of the spiders webs, the rain and hail removed all trace of them earlier. No doubt they will all be back by the time I wake up tomorrow.

My house is full of spiders as well, its as though they are waiting for me to open the door or window.

I guess no longer living in a London borough has a lot to do with it, I have seen insects I never knew existed since moving to kent.

Last year I heard a scratching behind one of the plug sockets. every time I knocked on the wall it stopped. In the end I decided to turn the power off and open the socket up as I thought it was a mouse, and the last thing I needed was it chewing through the wiring and causing a fire.

after I took the screws out I slowly pulled the socket away from the wall, and nearly had a heard attack, out came a stag beetle. I am not ashamed to say I dropped the screw driver and ran.

I wasn't expecting it, and had images of the scene from "the mummy" where 100s of scarab beetles came pouring out the hole. After the intial shock was over and I was happy he didnt have loads of friends with him it was scooped up and placed in the garden lol.

Must have been there a while as it was covered in white dust, poor little thing must have been quite thirsty

Definitely seems more than normal amounts this year. There's a big black spider (about 7cm long) currently going between my house and the neighbours on either side of us. We just keep passing it around, poor thing justs wants a home.

A nice big female Dave, it's their size that makes them more noticeable and they come in varied colours as shown in my post in What's Buzzing, a nice orangey one.
