Reading Pixies thread got me thinking. I have a greenhouse that hasn't been used for years and I need to go into it to clean it out, I can see HUGE ones through the windows and even the thought of going in there is scaring me :rolleyespink: The odd thing is I have horses and you'd think spiders were in the stables right? But I never see any there. There will be spiders around, no doubt of that as there are massive webs.

So, am I the only arachnophobic gardener ?

Get the hose, turn it on as hard as you dare (thinking about what your greenhouse could stand) and stand back as far as you can!

"So, am I the only arachnophobic gardener ?" No i'm in your club!!

My partner couldn't understand why i wanted a shed with a double door - to give me more space to open the doors and see out whats hanging about in there before going in, that's why. :heehee:

I'm a confirmed arachnophobe indoors - it's well documented I can enter a completely dark room and know instantly if one of the little beasties lurks within. What I (and my family) cannot understand however, is that in the garden, greenhouse, shed or garage, they don't bother me one jot.

    Explain that then :heehee:

As a rule, I don't mind spiders. However I must admit to freaking out the other day when I put on my bathrobe only to feel a strange ticklish sensation on my left arm. A very large spider had been camping out in the sleeve all night. I did what any mature, sensible woman would do in this situation. I fled down the stairs screaming 'Get It Off Me! Get It Off Me!'.

Not too worried about spiders but (and Jack Mc H will have suspicions confirmed here:heehee:) I was in one of the glasshouses at RHS Wisley & I saw something very large & colourfull with too many legs disappearing up my sleeve.

I didn't care about what the other people thought, I was stripped to my underpants in seconds.

Never did find it again though:what:

Put a chicken in the greenhouse first, they love spiders. Used to put any spiders we found during the build in superkings packets(Evil Wifes brand)

So the site chicken got used to spiders being fed to her from a gold packet. wife could never uderstand why the chicken used to suddenly be on her knee when she picked her cigarettes up:heehee:

The only spidees that freak me out are the huge ones the run really fast. Luckily if one of the cats sees one in the house it gets eaten........
