Is it a good idea to dilute paint (the type suitable for wood/metal) with a little spirit prior to painting?
What are those tiny bubbles that you sometimes see after the brush stroke?

i never dilute spirit based paint, the bubbles are just air that has got into it most times they just brush out.

I only thin the first undercoat, instead of primer, on wood or absorbent surfaces.

Spirit based paints aren't supposed to be diluted. Emulsion can be though. :)

You would not paint oil based paint on a wall, either inside or out

Oil based paint though almost unavailable is for woodwork or metal
Use emulsion or water based paint on inside walls
Masonary paint or limewash for outside walls

    IMHO
