    I was running a scan with SpyBot and it has come up with this report:

    [SBI $3604910C]Settings
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SecurityCenter\AntiVirusOveride[isnot]dword:0.

    and then lists it as a Registry change.

    Anyone know what it means?

    Do I tell it to fix it or is it a goody that should be left?

    Thanks :scratch: :cnfs:

    Shiney - doesn't look good the 'override' part of it! Take the whole string and pop it into google - see if you come up with the exact same problem elsewhere that you can look at what others have suggested? Of course, you have to be careful doing that too - as you want to ensure you're getting reliable info.

    Sorry I'm not techie enough to suggest anything more!

    Hi Natalie,

    I did that but it didn't help me a great deal as I am not sure of what to do.

    This is what it said:

    For these detections:
    Windows Security Center.AntiVirusOverride: Settings
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\AntiVirusOverride!=dword:0
    Windows Security Center.FirewallOverride: Settings
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\FirewallOverride!=dword:0
    I suggest that you go into Start > Control Panel > Security Center > look at the right hand side of the window and check the settings under "Firewall" and "Virus Protection" (expanding if necessary). I believe that you have overridden the protections and that you will find a button labeled "Recommendations". If you click on the "Recommendations" button I believe that you will get a window that indicates something like:
    I have a firewall that I'll monitor myself.
    and
    I have an antivirus program that I'll monitor myself.
    Note: with these setting Windows won't monitor your firewall and virus protection status and won't send you alerts if they are off or out of date.

    I checked, as suggested, and it does say "I have an antivirus programme that I'll monitor myself" but I didn't set that so I don't know whether I should change it :scratch:. Also, I'm not sure whether that will solve the problem - if it is a problem! :dh:

    You will have set this when you installed a thrid party Anti virus Shiney, ie a non microsoft version. Assuming you have AV and firewall, you can right click the key in SB S&D and exclude it from further scans.

    Steve...:)

    Thank you everyone,

    I, very recently, uninstalled my AntiVirus (PCTools) as it was rubbish (installed by a computer engineer) and replaced it with avg which is what I always used to use. This report has only appeared since then and woo has just sent me an extract explaining all about it. It says exactly the same as Steve has done :gnthb:

    So I shall exclude it from further scans.

    Once again, thank you all :D :thmb:

    Yes that makes so much sense - so glad you have it sorted. I feel like such a technophobe sometimes - and it doesn't hurt to check with others. I did a google on the 'message'.......and um, I would've been lost with the infomation I found and probably more confused than ever!

    Glad you've got it sorted :) :thumb:
