Standby

    On a recent thread it was suggested that rather than leaving the computer running all the time as we do now, it made more sense (over heating, power consumption etc.) to put it on Standby when not in actual use. So why is it that on my XP Home version machine Standby will only work once?If you try a second time then the machine ties up and we have to turn off altogether using the emergency off swith (press in the off button and hold it). Doing this does not save ones settings.

    This is a common problem. I have found that if you set it not to turn the hard disc off it will be more likely to come out of standby. Better still turn it off and not only save energy but wear and tear on your hard disc.
