Its a tad windy up here today. Loads of banging and clattering going on. Then an interesting/nice thing happened. Wife and I heard the distinctive sound of an empty wheelie bin taking itself for a walk, so I went out to have a look. By the time I got out the front, there was a man I don't even know, coming down our drive with our wheelie bin. He could have just walked on, but no, he went out of his way to return it. He said he caught it travelling at speed down the street:)

Got back from taking big lad to school, and saw wife on the drive, leaning at 45' degrees against the wind, her shoulder length hair standing almost upright, dragging the wheelie bin back in again. So now, in a first for me, I've had to actually tie it down:)

It seems to be getting worse here not better.....2 of my bird feeders have blown right off the tree but the birds will hoover the seed up. I can hear banging and crashing outside and quite a few dogs barking. The noise from the wind must start them off. A couple of my smaller pots have blown over but so far the wheelie bins seem to be ok.

The rope I used to tie the bins down, snapped.

The met office are saying that the north east coast (where I am) could see a storm surge comparable to the (possibly locally) infamous 1953 one, which actually destroyed things. There's a pub in the little fishing village of Staithes, just a few miles from me, that is currently on its third build. The first encarnation was destroyed in a storm in the early 1900s, the second build was washed away in 1953. We've got much better coastal defences now though, so probably nothing major will happen, but I bet the sea front is closed. I'm going to go and see shortly because I've told my mam not to walk home from work, so I'm going to pick her up.

Picked up about 100lbs of windfall apples, bagged them up in 3.1/2 - 4lb lots and put them in a wheelbarrow by the front gate - "Help yourself"

Lorry overturned on the M6 , Thelwell viaduct closed , so Warrington will be gridlocked ! Why don't they stop high-siders in gale conditions ?

That's not good :( But a more positive way to think of it is it's not nice weather to go out in anyway.

Up our way, the wind has died down a bit for now, and has been replaced by white stuff falling from the sky.
