    Hello all

I hope you are all well.

I have a Honeysuckle 'American Beauty' which seems to be struggling.

There is minimal new growth or leaves and the leaves that are present are curled up, all in all it is not looking good.

It is getting watered regularly, via Drip Irrigation so water should not be an issue.

It was planted in September 2019 on a Partially Shaded Fence facing North(ish) and had been growing well up till this Year.

It is not very big at the moment, covering approximately half of a standard 6' Fence Panel.

Is it possible to Hard Prune it and let it grow from scratch?

If so, when would be the best time to prune it and how low should it be pruned?

    Thanks in advance

    Kevin

Hi Kevin, could do with photos. Is it crispy, curly? as in wind burn....or yellow curly, as in aphids sucking the life out of it?

    Hello Flounder

    Thanks for the reply.

I will try to get some Photos but it is persistent Rain here so may be a while.

The leaves that there are still look green but are curled, slightly stiff but not crispy, yet.

    Thanks

    Kevin

I have managed to get a Photo between downpours:

Hopefully the Photo will help to diagnose the issue.

    Thanks in advance

    Hello @flounder

The Honeysuckle is continuing to struggle.

There is New Growth growing from the Base which looks healthy.

I know I can Hard Prune it in Early Spring down to 300mm or so, however, if it is struggling can those parts be removed at any Time?

If not then I will just Hard Prune it in March.

    Thanks in advance

    Kevin

    Hello all

Firstly, Thanks to WiseOwl for Moving this Thread for Me.

Secondly, Bad News, for the Plant

I just managed to get a good close look at the Honeysuckle, it is at the Back of the Deep Border at the bottom of the Garden so access is not easy.

The Branches are Dead and there is no living shoots at all, even at the Base.

Also, there was an odour at the Base, which upon inspection showed Roots in poor condition, some slightly mushy.

I have removed the Plant, Roots and All and have dug over the area so that it can breathe.

I will purchase a new one in Late Summer when they become available again.

    Thanks

    Kevin

      Hello @wiseowl

I should of had a much closer look before I bothered you to Move the Thread, sorry about that.

It was growing well Last Year so I do not know what happened.

At the place I Order from, the Honeysuckle 'American Beauty' is available to Order 'From Midsummer' which is somewhat vague.

Hopefully, I have better luck this Time.

      Thanks

      Kevin
