I think this becomes more of a phychological topic. It's a personal choice on what's more important: the peace of your mind, as you don't like the present, vs the attempt to be kind and not to offend the giver. Life is too short to make everyone happy.

Sadly, well sort of, no wind. Millpond here but very cold and lethal under foot so as @pete said I too could easily end up a la Torvil and Dean flat on my face, but with zero artistic impression marks!

Yes, someone else suggested a hedgehog house which is a good suggestion but, funny how there is often a but! . We do get hedgehogs around here, however, perhaps not really to be encouraged as we also have visits from badgers in this area and they kill hedgies. Some of the money I raise at my plant sales go to a hedgehog sanctuary not far from here.

@hailbopp Aaah now I see the full glory (hideousness... if that's a word).
I agree cut off the uprights put hinges on the roof and make some sort of storage box out of it. A dark stain so it "dissappears" into the background.

You could turn the situation into a growth opportunity and learn how to sell by a story @hailbopp :ideaIPB: It's a real thing, I can't find a link now but some researchers bought rubbish online for 1p and made up stories on the items to see if they would sell. Indeed they did.

Something like this on your eBay listing....

"Honestly, I'm not at all superstitious. It was just for laughs when I bought this wishing well from a car boot sale, put it into my dining room and threw in a penny, wishing it would stop raining.

        The rain stopped.

Slightly cautious now, I threw in a 5p coin and wished Aunt Emily was well. The phone rang, and Aunt Emily told about an unexpected call from the council, they are replacing her boiler and adding cavity wall and loft insulation next week, for free!

M&S sales has the trousers I wanted in my size- done. Charity shop has the sequel to the book I'm reading- done. Friend found a good patrtner after a series of bad ones- done. Sister's dog recovered from a serious medical incident- done.

Starting to feel, frankly, a bit spooky, I left the wishing well well alone for a year, not even looking at it.

Then my life circumstances changed and I made just one, big, wish and now want to pass the Wishing Well to the next person. :)

Our child is expected in May. :) "

i think we live in a new wild west era where scams, gambling, corruption, etc. are proliferating without opposition on an incredible scale. half the adverts i get on youtube are about crypto, ai porn, ai scams, gambling games, that story for the item is very familiar.

there is currently no politically organised opposition to this, in the last frontier era it ended with general strikes and socialist revolutions, then the new deal and so on. i am deeply cynical about our future
