A bit of a challenge for a rainy Sunday. ;) Can you put a name to these seed grown young cacti? All are 3-4 years old from Chiltern's seed mixes. Thanks! :)

1: Tall boy, about 60cm tall, fleshy and light green. About 2 fingers thick. Very, very fast growing :yikes:

2: Wonkies. Very thin (pinky width), purplish hue to them (I thought they were dying but they are in fact growing quite rapidly), much more spikes than Tall Boy and tapering towards the tip. They are all individual seedlings, not forming a rosette. I just planted them on like this.

3: Fatboy. Probably the same as Tallboy, but a head shorter.

4: The pretty one (right). I should know this... about the size of a £2 coin. Elongated shape is probably due to summer growth upwards.

5: The grubby one (left). Seems to be growing in blobs, much like Echinopsis.

6: The Elongated one. Looks like one of those forming rosettes. Not very pretty (yet)

7: The lovely one. Nice dark green flesh and thorns in clusters slightly bending backwards Ferocactus- style.

Here are some more photos for scale. Good name hunting my dear experts! :blue thumb:

I find cacti difficult to identify,

1 is a Cereus I think, possibly Cereus jamacaru
2 looks like Pilocereus due to the tufty areoles, but I don't know which species
3 another Cereus or Pachycereus ?
4 reminds me of Parodia ... but don't know the spp
        5 Echinopsis ?
        6 ?
        7 Mammillaria ?

        0 out of 7 I think lol ...

          1) Cereus Jamacaru is a very good guess, the annual growth spurts do look like that, clearly visible from the old stem. :)

          2) Pilocereus is possible, but apparently it seems to be of a rather rosette forming habit rather than a single pillar. Then again, these are very young seedlings.

Thanks @Michael Hewett , appreciate your expertise :blue thumb:

@pete @Upsydaisy, it has been raining for a week up here. Even the grass is starting to revert from the fashionable greige to somewhat greenish. Nearly.

Oh come on @pete , not even the Wonky lot? Admins will send a bar of supermarket's own brand chocolate for the best answers. (Nearly agreed) It's not that I've spent years in front of the plants without even hazy guesses...

Well they look like cactus to me.
"I find cacti difficult to identify", quote @Michael Hewett .
                And I agree.

Come back when they are in full flower.:roflol:

No 2 could be Oreocereus then @Selleri, they are hairy and I have two of them that form clumps ... I'm just guessing though lol.

@Michael Hewett , what a dedicated cactusophile you must be! I just noticed the date stamp in your post :heehee: Thank you for good suggestions, the tall ones must indeed be some kinds of Cereus.

I have also decided that 5 or 7, or both are Bergerocacti, just because they apparently are very rare and peculiar. Probably I will not be challenged on this so Bergerocacti they are.

The Italian webshop looks quite good, Shop online Cactus and Succulents - Giromagi.com . My wallet and living room hope that they don't deliver to UK... loads of interesting ones and good pictures and descriptions.

I am a hopeless insomniac

If you say they're Bergerocacti then Bergerocacti they are :dbgrtmb:

I'm going to have a look at that site later on and if they deliver here I may order something ... can't resist cacti and succulents
