    Hi ibble,
I just leave 'em for the birds and buy fresh each year ;) Nice to see the finches and the seeds are cheap enough.

    hi paladin,
Finches...i wish i was that lucky...all i get on my bird table are sparrows, not that i mind, BUT they don't appear to like the sunflower seeds, they pick them up and throw them over the side unopened, which is where the pigeons come in, i had one cheeky pigeon who used to hoover up all the spare sunflower seeds, he still comes and now we have 4 of the things, they even try to land straight on the table now,so i have to keep an eye open when i'm home!

finches - like the tits and indeed the sparrows, feed fine from feeders but if pidgeons are there mmmm. I feed both from ground, table and feeder all year - and after the birds finding it, I now have a constant stream of flitters. Love it, even the visiting sparrow hawk, who eats my visitors.

I just use peanuts, and sunflower hearts - (no mess left) - and even the gold finches have found them

I just leave most plants to seed and the birds keep me amused as they sway back and forth on the stems. We get all sorts in the garden, jackdaws to wrens, foxes to rabbits.constant food chain I reckon. [IMG]

If you put the Sunflower seeds under the grill for a bit, watch they don't burn the shells pop of. [IMG]
