Nice foliage too @NigelJ - what does it smell of? I find the different aromas of them quite interesting. I have just planted out S. sagitatta - I may just leave it to try to survive and take cuttings...

 

@CarolineL I went to have a look at it, just now and I don't think it's S darcyi although that is what I bought it as. I think it's actually S elegans "Honey Melon" so one of the "pineapple sages".
Mainly based on the fact that the pistil and stamens protrude beyond the flower, in S darcyi they don't.

 

Thanks, I'll look out for it next time I go to nursery. There seem to be a lot of salvias available now. It's like heucheras a few years ago...

 

@CarolineL Salvias, heucheras, geraniums and hemerocallis all have so many very similar varieties; maybe that's one reason why I like species, I can generally tell the difference between them.
