    @Glynne Williams You could take cuttings and bring one a young one as a replacement for the old ones.

    Yes I've done that in the past but usually at the end of the season as a sort of 'cutting back' but the shoots I was looking at were woody with tiny this-year's-shoots. It just struck me that these pot-grown Salvias 'live' in pots and depleat their compost. I usually topdress with leafmould and have occasionally repotted them after 2-3 years. My question really was what OTHER'S did? How often do you repot, and when perhaps?

    The only salvia I currently have in a pot as a large plant is Amistad. This gets repotted every year just after it decides to send up new shoots.

    Cheers! We've got about 6 different varieties in 'big' pots outside and about the same inside over winter which get planted out after frosts. I will be taking cuttings from some of these because there will be quite big shoots by then.

    Lots of green showing both outside and indoors. Still not long enough for good cuttings though!
