Hello all and thank you for adding me to your group :)

About 4 years ago I made my first geodesic greenhouse with the aim of living the 'good life', growing my own veg and reducing the family food miles. I also wanted to grow some food to feed our large tortoises and rabbits, but unfortunately that year the only thing that we fed was the local caterpillars. :(

The following year I made a larger heated greenhouse / animal shelter and we had some success, but still not enough to feed the family, but at least the pets got some quality organic food. I now use this space for the cactus and other heat loving plants.

Then last year I made a second smaller greenhouse and a load of raised cold frames, and we finally grew just about enough for a couple of meals and to keep our summer salads topped up with tomatoes etc. We actually sacrificed all of the brassicas to the caterpillars so that the kids could watch the whole life cycle from egg to chrysalis, which was fun.

So this year I am hoping for another steady improvement. Ill be fencing off an area so that we can grow some stuff in the ground without the tortoises eating everything, but any advice or tips I can glean from this site will be put to good use.

IMG_3339.JPG Thanks, I've just been looking for a few pics to share. :)

This is the more recent greenhouse I made last year.

Cool greenhouse. I really wanted one of those in my young days. They were quite fashionable in a hippyish sort of way. Couldn’t afford one so made do with a wooden conventional one until it blew down in a gale.

            Welcome!

                Great looking greenhouse

Are cacti a minor thing or an obsession ? I have a feeling that my interest in cacti is heading towards the obsessive end of the scale

                Thanks :)

Cacti are just a small thing for me but I want to get some more when I redo the large dome later in the year. Especially the large cactus pads that the tortoises can eat. :)

Lots of Opuntia recipes for human dishes too. I haven't tried any but feel that I need to
