Thought it was a Rhododendron??

We inherited this plant was told it grew from a stone from a fruit but just thought it was a Rhododendron,the original owner still visits so have to pretend we like it!
But would love to know what it is,it has just started to come into bud and stays green all year,there was a rumour it may be a fig or date.

 

Looks like a common Laurel to me.

 

does look like it,but wonder why she thinks it came from a fruit seed!

 

In theory she is right.
Laurel has berries. ie the fruits

Smaller leaves with a bit more of a horizontal habit than the common laurel.

It is probably Prunus Otto Luyken.

 

Laurel self seeds in my garden, so it quite likely that maybe a fruit stone was planted, which never germinated.
Then this nice shiny leaved seedling appears, looks different from most weeds.

 

Luckily its in the right place as a hedging plant,just in front of my compost area so hides that quite well,this is the first year it has had flowers.Now I know what it is I might leave it be,Thanks everyone
