No idea whether this because of something I have done ... so I am keen to hear if anyone else has the problem.

I use the New Posts link and click on the little [IMG] icon to see the next-unread-post in the thread. That works fine (and makes it easy for me to catch on up threads that I am interested in)

But previously when I then clicked on the New Posts link all the threads I had read were changed from Bold to Normal text, and the [IMG] icon was removed - so I could easily see what I had read, and what not. Now that seems to only happen for very few of the threads - so mostly I cannot easily tell if I have read them, or not.

This also used to happen if I replied to a thread - so my reply would be the latest post in the thread, and it would show on the New Posts list, BUT the [IMG] icon would not be present - indicating that I had read the thread (obviously!)

    Anyone else getting this effect?

I haven't experienced that but what I generally do is to right click on the [IMG] and choose "Open in New Tab" from the menu. Then when I've read it, I close that new tab and I'm back to the list of New Posts. The last item I clicked on is neatly ringed with a dotted red line so I know where I was. Beats waiting for the search to work and bring back the list again.

Just in case a picture helps:

1: I have read this. The [IMG] icon has been removed, and the thread title is not boldface

2: I have read this (but not replied). Icon not removed, still boldface.

3: I have read both these, and I have replied, and my reply is the most recent post. Again, Icon not removed, still boldface.

Yes, I do exactly that. In fact I Right-click and open-in-new-tab on all the threads I want to read, and then set about reading each tab in turn (by which time they are all already loaded).

For this to work you would need FireFox and disable the setting:

Tools : Options : [Tabs] : "When I open a new tab switch to it immediately"

I don't think there is a similar option in IE - so when you do "Open in new tab" it switches to that tab immediately.

Anyway, thanks for that Daisees. But after you have done that if you then press "New Posts" are the threads you have read shown differently to the ones you haven't read?

I'm sure they used to be different ...

On one of my other forums, where I do that most, sometimes when I refresh the New Posts, I find that threads I have replied to still show up in bold. Never really thought much about it to be honest - just thought it was a bit of a quirk. It should be that when you've read and/or posted, it's no longer in bold, of course, but then, you know vB!

OK, I'll keep an eye on it. I'll try it with a different browser too,and after I next reboot. Its probably my computer, rather than the server ...

Well, it seems to have gone away all of a sudden. No idea why, but clearly something my end, or a temporary bug in my browser that has now been fixed.

Its done it since I joined here, also if (from the index page) a particular forum shows a new post..I can click to enter the forum...but the new topic or post indicator does not show..well sometimes it does..when it feels like it.

This is not a fully functioning vBulletin behaviour or a browser issue, my own install of it never does this, and the other vBullettin forums I am a member of do not do it either.

    Steve...:)

Thanks, but I'm assuming it is cured here ... no doubt that's put the kiss-of-death on it!

This problem has happened to me a few times recently, I don't know why, nothing has changed at my end I think (although I can never be sure). I'm using IE.

Hahaha ... this was missing from the New Posts list just now ... thought it odd that it had reset to only show the last few, so did "Quick links : Today's posts", just in case, and saw your post.

    Bother :(

I hadn't realised there was a "Quick links : Today's posts" feature, thanks :gnthb:
