A while ago I went onto a forum whining that I was a total disaster in the greenhouse .. well I now need some tiny little black plastic pots because I am overrun by cactus seedlings I have just completed a three hour marathon round every garden centre between here and Timbuctoo (Ok slight exageration) but can't get any unless I buy the terracota ones. The pots I am after are only about an inch across the top.Has anyone any they could sell me.. I need about 18 but any would be welcome
    Thanks

Ghollum, how big are the seedlings?
Its not a good time to be potting on cactus seedlings.
I'd leave them alone for this year, it wont be long before you need to start drying them off for the winter, and they're easier to handle in one larger pot. You can then separate them next spring, and they will get away well. [IMG]

    Hi Pete

They are really tiny but are in a seed tray and following the instructions to keep them damp I have been spraying them so the top of the compost is not looking very healthy even though I have added sand and we have been plagued by little black flies that have left maggot type larvae in some of our pots so I thought I would repot them and try a little damage limitation.

Is it peat compost, it sounds like it.
Try watering normally and then letting it dry out quite a lot before watering again.
When I grow cacti from seed I usually keep them in the same tray for the first year at least, unless they are the really fast growing kinds.
By spraying you maybe just wetting the surface, you need the water under the surface, to draw the roots down, not up.
If it was earlier in the season I would suggest soaking the tray from the bottom and then letting it almost dry out before doing the same again, but its a bit late now, in the year. [IMG]
