I have been a smoker since buying single fags before going into School@age 13.

I have always purchased packets of ten since then, but the cost has gone up that much I decided to try the old hand rolling tobacco.
I was purchasing a pouch of tobacco containing 12.5 Grams, cost now @ £5.00 a pouch, and I have been doing this for many years with a pouch lasting me @3 days.

Yesterday I went to purchase a pouch of the usual 12.5 grams , I was informed that they are phasing out the 12.5 grams they are being replaced by a pouch containing 25.0 grams:mad:.
They are also phasing out 10 Cigarette Packs, they are being replaced by 20 cigarette Packs .
I thought the Government was supposed to be looking after our health when they started,(Hiding) the Tobacco behind metal doors away from the public eye, that was a wonderful idea :scratch:., I wonder how many people quit smoking with that idea.

I think this is another Scatter Brain Idea,it will not stop people smoking it could be the exact opposite.

The old adage-' The More You Have The More You Will Use'.

I Started Out With Nothing. Still Got Most Of It Left ;).

Thinking of the tax revenue from baccy.

The government has to seem to want to phase out smoking. But with a growing population, a collapsing NHS, they will surely welcome something that generates huge revenues while at the same time cutting life expectancy.

As an ex smoker myself, who has allowed himself to smoke only over Christmas, I know I'm going to have to watch myself. I can smoke 12.5 grams then give up again. I think after 25 grams I'd be hooked.

Why would the government actually want people to give up smoking?
OK they waffle on about saving the NHS money but it's mostly about tax.

Pete, they have to be seen to advocate non smoking, hence the closed cabinets. As you say though they need the revenue FROM the sale of tobacco products.

I work in retail and we have already had to phase out a lot of 10 cigs and small tobacco,in May it will be law that products in 10 packets cant be sold and also any tobacco pouches under 30 grams, our company instructed us not to order anything that we cant sell through by then so they are not stuck with unsold stock.
A lot of stock im finding is now is impossible to order as the new packaging filters through..horrid photos :(
The law on opening our tobacco cabinet is strict,i think the aim is to make that cabinet door open less hence the larger quantities so people wont be buying as often even though customers have said they think they will end up smoking more :(
If its to protect kids ..im sure the saying says curiosity killed the cat :dunno:

I'm just worried my bacco is gonna dry out too much buying bigger packs, I've cut quite a bit since last Aug and 12.5g lasts me 3 days too :noidea:

Ooh I'll give that a bash, I tried using orange peel (a long time ago) but it didn't do much. Think I need to get a tin too!

I knew a farmer once that combined saving money with prolonging the life of his baccy, by mixing it 50/50 with almost but not completely dried horse poo.

Don't tempt me... We grew some "other stuff" last few years, good crops but drying smelt the house out. Don't grow or smoke that anymore though :pathd:
