Thinking about next year already, can I use the seeds from tomatoes grown this year for planting next year?

If so how do I do it?

I'm more interested in 3 plants I've got growing which are from the heritage seed library and were given to me by a friend

One way is to press the pulp of the tomato through a sieve washing it as you go until all you have left is the seeds...dry these on paper towels and store away in a dry place

F1 hybrids though will not produce true plants if they do germinate

How do you know if it's a F1? Does it say on the packet? (makes mental note to check packet)
