Topdressing houseplants

    My garden calendar says I should now be doing this but I am out of houseplant compost. Could I use multipurpose/general compost or is houseplant compost special in some way? Is there something I could do to multipurpose compost to make it more amemable to being used for houseplants (I note that houseplant composts are open textured), e.g. mix more with sand?

    I have some topsoil...would this be suitable to use?

    Personally I'd mix a small amount of controlled release fertiliser with some multi purpose, and use that.
    The old, houseplant compost, just the same stuff in smaller bags and sold at higher prices.:smile:

      I've never used anything but MPC for houseplants, and then fed them accordingly
