I have no idea on judging how much I'm buying by weight and tend to go on sight but I can't do that with topsoil. So, can anybody give me an idea please on how many builders bags a ton of topsoil would fill?

Secondly what is the approximate cost of screened topsoil now please?

Thanks but sorry Martin I think you've missed my point. I don't know how much I need because it's going in various parts of my garden. I can only judge it by how much I can see as I don't know how much a ton looks like. A ton in builders bags will give me a rough idea. All my life I've tended to measure things mainly on sight and my judgement is usually pretty accurate. :)

Basically those builder bags you mention, equate to one cubic yard= approx 1 ton.

May I add some advice. Topsoil is simply just that. Joe Bloggs is digging out the fondations for a new garage. Basically the soil might contain allsorsts. Without doubt , it will cantain plenty of weed seeds. It may also contain harmful chemicals, such as oil residule and other chemical waste that has been drained on site.
Then there is the choice of, steamed topsoil. Here the soil goes through a process that should get rid of most weed seeds etc.
Screened topsoil simply means. The soil has been passed through a giant seive to get rid of debis. Hope this helps.

What ive found with soil/gravel S look at it work out what you need then double it :dbgrtmb:.

A pile of loose soil soon flattens down to nothing,

Soil spread and walked on to flatten it down no soil removed,
