Tree lilies

Rifling throught the plant and seed offerings on Ebay, as you do on a dreary January afternoon, I thought I could do with more lily bulbs. Probably a lot more lily bulbs.

There's something available called a tree lily, which seems to be just a very big lily plant. However, reading between the lines it won't flower for 3 years. Seems like it's a potential rip-off as all other lilies could be expected to flower the same season.

Any one got any experience of these?

 

I think you got it wrong......hymalayan lily dasn`t flower for three years , but the tree lily flower every years , it get bigger and bigger every year , mine are on the 3rd year and last year got a 1 at 5 feet high , but still need support.
Btw there is a new giant lily out who apparently can get 12 inches wide .

I wonder if it's another case of common name confusion - Could it be that it refers to Cardiocrinum giganteum (Giant Himalayan Lily)? Mine took two years after purchase to flower. If that is the case, well worth the effort, but be aware that they are monocarpic.

 

they are really nice but the problem with them is that they only last 1 week and after !!!!!! even day lily last longer with them continious bloom.

 

They're not cardiocrinums, they look like oriental lilies. Did yours flower in the first year you bought, it sal73?

 

Hi Madahlia....yes they are giant oriental lily sold as tree lily , they are in them 3rd year now , but they will flower from the first year......I`ve just received T&M catologue myself and they really have some stunning lily , including the giant 12" wide lily (look like a must have)
